22 Feb 2011

Posted by Joseph Coupal

The new guidelines for physical activity for ages 18-64 is at least 150 minutes/week.That's equivalent to working out for 30 minutes for 5 days a week. However, many people find it hard to stay motivated to exercise on a daily basis. Scheduling 30 minutes of your day aside to workout shouldn't be a problem for anyone so here's are 3 tips we feel can help you stay motivated to exercise and reaching your fitness goals.

1. Notebook and pen -Bring this with you whenever you go to the gym or exercising and log in your workout routines and progress in it. Its a great way to keep track of your exercises as well as your repetitions and sets. A good way to prepare yourself is to write down knowing what exercises your going to do that day prior to the workout. This notebook acts as an agenda for your workouts, and is a great little tool to help motivate you to reach your goals faster by jotting it down.

2. Mp3 player/ music gadget - Nothing feels better than listening to music while working out. Find songs that get you in your groove and gets you focused on yourself and your lifts. Listening to music is also a great way to avoid distractions in the gym.

3. Our Group Exercises - Getting involved in one of our group exercises is great because the members and instructor act as a boost of motivation. They can help support and spot you on your routines, provide guidance and fitness tips, and make it more fun and challenging.

A good beginner type of calorie burning and strength gaining exercise is that of resistance training. It is common for many individuals to direct their energies to weightlifting exercises but it is also acceptable to begin with an exercise program based on body weight. Whichever exercise program you choose, begin at a slow pace until you have learned the correct way to practice the strength training exercise designed for you.

There are many different exercises that can be included in a strength based exercise plan. It's a good idea to include exercises that use various muscles. Begin slowly and gradually increase the weight. There are several different methods you can use to vary your exercise routine. You could do a complete body workout routine one day, your legs and abs on another day, and your arms on yet another day. Always give yourself one complete 24 hour period of rest before focusing on that same muscle again. To increase circulation, make sure you warm up your muscles at the beginning of your exercise routine.

It is not necessary for a beginner workout routines to be so hard to follow. Always begin by adding calorie burning cardiovascular exercises in conjunction with helpful strength training exercises. You should see yourself losing weight by exercising at least three to four hours weekly. After you have advanced, you may want to consider a more strenuous routine based on weightlifting or body weight. Contact us today should you have any questions about starting a workout plan.

Is A Cardio Routine Really That Important?

28 Dec 2010

Cardiovascular exercise simply means that you are actively participating in something that will raise your heart rate to meet your target. Before you start a cardio routine, it is important to be aware of your personal target rate. This means that during your cardio routine, your heart rate should be within this zone. If it goes above the zone, you need to slow down. If it goes below the zone, you should pick up the pace. A simple tip to remember is that during your workout, you should be breathing heavier but still be able to have a conversation without stopping your exercise.

Cardio is very important for many reasons. First, it is a way to burn calories in a short amount of time and help you lose weight. It also helps you maintain your weight once you have reached your weight goal. Second, cardio strengthens your heart so it does not have to work as hard to pump blood in your body. Third, it increases your lung capacity. Fourth, it reduces the risks of heart disease, heart attacks, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. These are all health issues that affect so many men and women in American today. Just think, many of these cases could be prevented with some simple cardiovascular exercise. In addition to helping reduce risks of health problems, cardio also just simply makes you feel good, helps you sleep better, and reduces stress.

How Martial Arts In Our Group Kick Can Be Beneficial For You

20 Dec 2010

Our group kick which consists of martial arts as a primary part of the fitness routine is perhaps the single most comprehensive fitness there is. The fitness you develop from a really good self-defense program covers aerobics, to strength training, to muscular endurance, to flexibility. This might actually be the single best fitness system ever invented.

What's so nice about it is that you don't need any real equipment to work on your self-defense fitness. Although you don't really need anything to complement your self-defense workouts, doing other types of workouts can have a real synergistic effect. You have to watch what types of workouts you do. Regular weight training sessions, for instance, are probably not what you need. Neither do you need to run five miles a day, everyday...or any day. You need a program that mimics what you do in your self-defense classes-short bursts of speed, lifting your body weight ten or more times, as you do in a sit up. If you couple this type of workout with self-defense, your overall fitness will skyrocket, and you'll be in the best shape of your life.

The benefits from this type of fitness are enormous. You'll protect yourself from cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and a host of other diseases associated with a poor lifestyle. You'll feel better as you get into better shape with martial arts fitness. You'll not only feel better, but you'll look better, too.

Our group kick fitness is one of our popular group fitness exercises we have. As with all of our group exercises you’ll have an instructor and fitness mates to do the routines with.  After the routine you will be excited to get your first class under your belt. It is important to know that you will be sore. With any new workout or at the start of any exercise program you experience muscle soreness. This is because your body is adjusting to the demand being placed on your muscles and is perfectly normal. Contact us today to find out how you can join our group kick program or any other group fitness exercise!

The reason it's important for you to get the right kind of sneakers or footwear for your dance fitness work out is because this is a unique cardio exercise session. Regular sneakers just won't do. Why you might ask? Well, you would think that you could use your regular sneakers or dance footwear but you’ll soon find out that dance shoes will not provide enough support and comfort for an hour-long workout.

Sneakers on the other hand, have grips on the bottom and will trip you up and may cause you to fall in class. Therefore, it is best to buy a shoe or sneaker specifically designed for this type of cardio training. And your dance exercise footwear has to be flexible and lightweight. And, they have to have good shock absorption. Because of some of the movements in this type of dance workout you'll be jumping, twisting, and moving all around. So then you might be wondering what are the best Zumba shoes? Well first of you need to take into consideration 3 key factors when buying your Zumba dance shoes:

Look for Flexibility

A flexible shoe or sneaker is a must-have when you're looking for good or shoes for Zumba. They need to be not too firm and they should be able to adjust to some of the exciting movements involved in this type of workout. Rigid shoes are a no-no.

Insoles of the shoes is very important

Spend a few extra bucks and pick yourself up a pair of dance insoles. You will not believe how comfortable this will make your feet and consequently you will get more enjoyment out of your aerobic workout.

Lastly, are they comfortable?

Adding the insole helps a great deal however, you don't want shoes or sneakers that are way too tight don't fit or hurt you. Remember, the key to this type of workout is consistency.

However, don't let the fact that you don't have the perfect shoes stopped you from your Zumba workout . The main thing is for you to get started and to begin reshaping your body. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions about our Zumba workout or any other fitness programs we offer.

Are Cardio and Aerobic Exercise the same thing?

10 Feb 2010

Posted by Joseph Coupal

Cardiovascular or cardio exercise refers to exercise that strengthens the cardiovascular system. The term Aerobic just means in the presence of oxygen, and aerobic exercise refers to exercise that you perform long enough to require oxygen. The same types of exercise satisfy both definitions, and the terms cardio and aerobic exercise are used interchangeably. Aerobic/cardio exercise uses large muscle groups (usually legs) in a rhythmic and/or repetitive fashion. Examples are running, walking, bicycling, spinning, swimming, cross-country skiing, rowing, skating, and cardio machines such as stair steppers, treadmills, and elliptical trainers.
