The bench press is a go-to move for building upper body strength, hitting your chest, shoulders, and triceps all at once. But without proper form, it’s easy to stall progress—or worse, get injured.
Here at Answer is Fitness in Foxboro, we help members press smarter, not just harder. Here’s how to bench press with confidence and control:
Key Form Tips:
Feet Flat & Stable – Drive through your legs for more power.
Back Position – Keep a natural arch; shoulders and glutes stay on the bench.
Grip – Slightly wider than shoulder-width; wrists straight.
Lower with Control – Bar to mid-chest, elbows at a 45° angle.
Press Strong – Push up smoothly, keeping everything tight.
Common Mistakes:
Elbows flaring too wide
Hips lifting off the bench
Bouncing the bar
Going too heavy, too fast
Pro Tips:
Warm up with light sets
Use a spotter for heavy lifts
Mix in dumbbell presses for balance
Don’t skip back training—strong backs support stronger pressing
