The Astanga (pronounced ASH-TAN-GA) was developed by Sri K. Pattabhi–Jois, one of the most respected Yoga teachers of the 20th century. The practice was developed to promote a healthy body and mind, linking breath and movement in a graceful sequenced flow of yoga postures.
The sequence of postures follows an increasingly challenging progression as one move through the practice. The intensity of movement and breath brings about an internal cleansing of the body, ridding the body of accumulated environmental and emotional toxins. This purification will lead to a desire for a healthy life style and will return your body to a balanced state.
In this session of classes, the correct postures will be taught, with focus on alignment of the body and proper breathing techniques, the basic elements of a vinyasa practice. As you progress through the practice, you develop more strength and flexibility, building your practice with each class. You will experience steadiness and clarity of mind.
The process is steady and intense and it is suggested that only experienced yoga practitioners attend this program. Astanga is a most enjoyable and freeing practice that can bring about positive changes in your life.
