What is Yoga?
Yoga is a spiritual science of self-realization. It comes from India and goes back over five thousand of years.
Yoga is an ancient method of unifying body and mind. It clears and promotes the flow of clean energy throughout all the energy meridians of the body/mind. It creates mindfulness, neutral awareness, calm, strength, and flexibility in both mind and body. It is a respectful, mindful way of life that gently promotes emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health through daily exercise, breathing, and meditation.
Hatha yoga (The practice of asanas or the postures) seeks to promote health and well-being through physical exercise. The regular practice of asanas, and breathing exercises (pranayama), makes the body strong, supple and healthy. It has a profound effect on the circulation and on the functioning of the inner organs, glands and nerves, keeping all systems in radiant health and leading to greater energy, better concentration, and a happier, more fulfilling life. Many common physical ailments can also be improved through the regular practice of yoga, and it is never too late or too early in life to take it up. Anyone can practice yoga.

What is Astanga Yoga?
The Astanga (pronounced ASH-TAN-GA) was developed by Sri K. Pattabhi–Jois, one of the most respected Yoga teachers of the 20th century. The practice was developed to promote a healthy body and mind, linking breath and movement in a graceful sequenced flow of yoga postures.
The sequence of postures follows an increasingly challenging progression as one move through the practice. The intensity of movement and breath brings about an internal cleansing of the body, ridding the body of accumulated environmental and emotional toxins. This purification will lead to a desire for a healthy life style and will return your body to a balanced state.
In this session of classes, the correct postures will be taught, with focus on alignment of the body and proper breathing techniques, the basic elements of a vinyasa practice. As you progress through the practice, you develop more strength and flexibility, building your practice with each class. You will experience steadiness and clarity of mind.
The process is steady and intense and it is suggested that only experienced yoga practitioners attend this program. Astanga is a most enjoyable and freeing practice that can bring about positive changes in your life.
