We all feel the positive and negative effects of the Holidays. A common negative effect is simply the command that the Holidays demand of our time. Often, that time comes at the expense of our normal fitness routines. Well, let’s get your physical fitness routine back on track.
If you feel that you excluded your fitness throughout the holidays, now is the time to get back then time to start anew. But a gentle reminder not to beat yourself up. Put away those negative feelings and see things differently. This is your chance to start fresh and perhaps try a new class. It is normal for your body to decondition itself after a break from exercise. There are ‘cheat days’ particularly during the holiday season that will not be avoided. And now that you have decided to start anew when you get back into exercise, remember not to push yourself too hard as this will lead to injury. Start slowly. Eventually, you will increase the duration and intensity of your workouts as you progress. And this means that you are easing your way gently back into your fitness regime. Try carving out just thirty minutes of gentle exercise a day or every other day and it will give you the energy you need to get on with the rest of the day.
It is another year then time to set a realistic fitness goal that will help you keep up your motivation and momentum towards a healthy lifestyle. Always remember that it takes healthy habits at least three weeks to form and once you have started, you will be back on track in your health and fitness regime. If you experience pain or strain, then stop exercising and rest. Finally, listen to your body once you begin exercising and to always respect its limits.
