February is Heart Health month, and this being Valentine’s Day it is the perfect day to be more aware of taking care of your heart.
Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S? There are several risk factors that contribute to heart health. Some you cannot control, like genetics, history and race. But some risk factors you can control, like diet, exercise, and healthy living.
If you want to take the most effective path to a healthy heart, exercise is the answer. Regular exercise and cardio activities improve the efficiency of your heart to pump blood throughout your entire body. It also improves its flexibility. Incorporating exercise into your daily routine is a surefire way to lower you chances for heart attack and heart disease. Additionally, through exercise you can lower your blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels.
Regarding diet, eating healthy and adding fiber while decreasing foods with fats, sugars and carbs is better for your heart, and you overall health, physical and mental. Combining a well-balanced diet and exercise can help you reach a ripe old age.
A healthy lifestyle is also a way to promote heart health. Smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, obesity, and diabetes can all be controlled. Take charge and take control these risk factors as well.
