High intensity interval training is the great way to burn fat, get in shape, and prevent you from boredom from repetitive exercises. The major benefits of this training, especially for women, will help reduce fat, pump up their metabolism, and it will be done practically anywhere.
Interval training helps to enhance the performance of runners by firing up their metabolism and cardiovascular system. So, if you are not already incorporating them into your training, you should definitely give them a go. Just remember to build up that intensity throughout your session. It is important to have fixed work and fixed recovery time. Initially, it starts at metabolic interval workouts, programming a fixed time such as 30 seconds work to 60 seconds rests. And fixing this variation, you will move for a fixed work period but then, using a heart rate monitor or rate of perceived exertion, you will recover as long as needed. The better shape you are in, the less rest you will need. Instead of having the same rest period, it is better to use a progressive rest period that gets longer each round as you fatigue.
People in great shape will take 1-2 minutes on an exercise to get their heart rate up to the intensity it needs to be. Those same people will recover much faster and be ready to go again quickly. Interval training will give you the best of both worlds, high-octane cardio and muscle-sculpting sprints. As always, you will know how you will get on!
