Barre fitness is a compound workout which fuses ballet-inspired maneuvers with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Barre classes usually integrate a ballet barre and apply classic dance twitches such as plies, together with static stretches. Barre also concentrates on high reps of small range movements. However, what makes it totally different from other workouts is the isometric movements which are usually performed by keeping the body still while specific muscles are contracted.
Most classes begin with warm up exercises that includes pushups, tricep dips, and planks prior to moving to the barre. This is designed to concentrate on leg and glute toning and strengthening. Barre classes usually end the session on the mat where the session turns to core strengthening. Then onto a yoga-inspired cool-down. Resistance bands and light hand weights are sometimes employed to add challenge to the workout. This helps develop lean muscles.
