Fitness Slump? How to Avoid It - North Attleboro, MA
27 September 2013
It’s easy to lose your motivation when it comes to diet and exercise. Are you in a fitness slump? There could be a number of reasons; the days are getting cooler and shorter. This often has an effect on people’s psyche. However, your fitness malaise could be a result of those with whom you are surrounded. Like attracts like and energy is contagious.
If those around you are in a fitness slump or are feeling melancholy, look for some new people to surround yourself with! At least part of the time. The people around you impact your energy level and, as a result, your commitment to health and fitness.
A study found that college students who spent most of their time with 30 randomly selected undergrads adopted the diet and exercise patterns of the least fit person within their peer group.* That means you can't hang with sedentary junk food eaters. If you want to be healthy you have to be around healthy people regularly.
It is better to add those to your circle that have like-minded fitness goals. Fitness friends or personal trainers help you keep at it. So find friends or motivators that are dependable but also dedicated. You don’t want to depend on them to let you slide; you want to depend on them to be dedicated to a fitness and weight loss plan.
Those who are passionate about fitness or who push themselves towards a healthier, more fit mind and body, with a commitment to the lifestyle are perfect motivators and you can help each other stay on target.
Oftentimes commitment to fitness is confused with fads. Fad diets and exercises don’t work, so be sure that you and your friends have a commitment to a long-term lifestyle change, not a committed to a “fast weight loss trick.”
